Sam Mendes Still Directing BOND 23

Sam Mendes was attached to direct Bond 23 before MGM’s financial woes and it was unclear if we would still be in the directors chair.   In an interview yesterday, Kate Winslet revealed that Mendes still plans on developing the next James Bond film.

MGM recently announed their plans to proceed with the production of Bond 23.  The good news continues for Bond fans like myself, they also announced that they are planning on releasing a new James Bond film every two years starting in November of 2012.
Mail Online reports that Mendes is expected to start production on the movie towards the end of next year. Winslet explained that she’ll move to the UK with her children during that time so they can be close to their father. Here’s what she had to say,

Sam is doing the next Bond film, all being well, and we’ll all be in England if that happens. It’s such a massive commitment for him and it’s not fair for him to commute backwards and forwards to New York from London. It would be impossible. The children will be there with me.

It was also noted that Mendes and Barbara Broccoli have already had many production meetings over casting, and Ms Broccoli has visited the play Deathtrap twice to see Simon Russell Beale perform. The leading actor is an old friend of Sam’s and they want to work together again.
I think that Sam Mendes is a fabulous director and will be able to bring a different tone to the film.  What are your thoughts of this news?
