Sony Developing A Contemporary FRANKENSTEIN Film

Get ready for a modern day retelling of Mary Shelley‘s Frankenstein!

Sony Pictures has just bought the rights to a new film pitch from Craig Fernandez that re-imagines Frankenstein in a contemporary setting. I know this does not sound like that original of an idea for new film, but there have not been a bunch of new ideas floating around Hollywood lately. This does sound better than another remake in my mind.
Fernandez, recently worked on the upcoming Lionsgate movie From Prada to Nada, described as a Latin spin on Sense and Sensibility. He also just scripted Everything Must Go for DreamWorks Animation, based on Terry Pratchett’s The Bromeliad Trilogy. In addition to writing this new Frankenstein he is adapting the Octavia Butler novel Clay’s Ark for DreamWorks Animation and Shrek producer Aaron Warner.
Former Sony Pictures co-president Matt Tolmach will produce the film through his Matt Tolmach Productions.
I would much rather see Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein film get made than this, but again, it’t better than a full blown remake.  What are your thoughts about this news?
