Baz Luhrman, Michael Mann & Oliver Stone Discuss Blu-ray & 3D Formats

20th Century Fox held a panel discussion at CES 2011 with Oliver Stone, Michael Mann and Baz Luhrman.

In the video of the panel discussion we not only hear of their love for Blu-ray but learn of their intent and learn of some upcoming films that may be in 3D.

Below is the edited video of the directors in discussion.
The video is pretty cool and gives us some insight into why they love the format of Blu-ray. I enjoy Stone’s comparison of a Blu-ray disc to a book. It is always cool to hear insights like this from directors.
Another cool aspect of the video is we get to see the directors talk a bit about the 3D format. At the 2:09 mark Michael Mann makes the following statement:

I would probably shoot… just a pure dialogue drama I would shoot in 3D.

So does this mean that he will shoot his upcoming film Capa in 3D? The answer to that is maybe, the subject matter of a photographer may be better suited for 2D. Mann could decide that telling the story in 3D might be a nice choice to capture the film.
Luhrmann also mentioned he may be filming his adaptation of The Great Gatsby in 3D. Here is what THR reported:

Praising the 3D format, director Baz Luhrmann told The Hollywood Reporter that he has workshopped his upcoming project The Great Gatsby in 3D, though he has not made a call about whether to shoot in the format.

Gatsby may not end up being shot in 3D, but Luhrman’s style does lend itself to filming in 3D in future films. I personally hope that the film is not shot in 3D.
What are your thoughts of the possibilty of Capa or The Great Gatsby being filmed in 3D?
