TV Review: AMERICAN HORROR STORY is must-watch TV

FX has done it again, AMERICAN HORROR STORY is one of those shows that is hard to shake after watching. I have been able to check out three episodes so far and let me tell you, I am thirsty for more. The show stars Dylan McDermott, Connie Britton, Evan Peters, Jessica Lange and Taissa Farmiga. The show was co-created by former NIP/TUCK executive producers and current GLEE co-creators/executive producers Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk.

The characters continue to show new layers with each episode, and it is must-watch television for me. It is too early for me to decide who my favorite cast member is. I am really impressed with Farmiga, and see a good career ahead of her. It is good to see McDermott on a weekly series, he is a solid actor. Britton is best known for FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS, but I am not very familiar with her,, She is great in this role, so fans will be happy. Lange is terrifyingly great in this role, and she steals each scene she is in.

The colors and lighting of this show add to the eeriness. There are a number of flashbacks and colors are muted during those scenes. When the show moves back to the present time, the colors and lighting are a lot more bright and crisp. NIP/TUCK had a lot of dark and depraved story lines, but this show seems to have upped the ante.

Plot Synopsis:

American Horror Story revolves around the Harmons, a family of three who moved from Boston to Los Angeles as a means to reconcile past anguish. The all-star cast features Dylan McDermott as “Ben Harmon,” a psychiatrist; Connie Britton as “Vivien Harmon,” Ben’s wife; Taissa Farmiga as “Violet,” the Harmon’s teenage daughter; Jessica Lange in her first-ever regular series TV role as “Constance,” the Harmon’s neighbor; Evan Peters plays “Tate Langdon,” one of Ben’s patients; and Denis O’Hare as “Larry Harvey.” Guest stars for the series include Frances Conroy as the Harmon’s housekeeper; Alexandra Breckenridge as the Harmon’s housekeeper; and Jamie Brewer as Constance’s daughter.

AMERICAN HORROR STORY is FX’s 12th drama to receive a full 13-episode series order. All new episodes air on Wednesdays at 10pm e/p only on FX. This is a perfect show to help get you in the Halloween spirit.
