TWILIGHT FOREVER: THE COMPLETE SAGA Blu-ray Review
If you hate Twilight you might want to stop reading this review now. I have read each of the books in the series and seen every film with my wife. The books are pretty low on the totem pole of quality, Even thought I enjoy the saga, I have never apologized for the fact that there are a number of issues.
Twilight Forever: The Complete Saga has arrived on Blu-ray and it has tons of extra features. The double-sided collectors box, commemorative photo album, and over 2 hours of bonus features make the collection a must-buy for fans of the saga. The first film arrived in theaters on November of 2008 and the final installment arrived in November of 2012. All films, which together grossed more than $3.3 billion at the worldwide box office, were written by Melissa Rosenberg based on the novels in author Stephenie Meyer’s “Twilight” series.
In case you have been living under a rock, Twilight is a story of love and fantasy set in a world where vampires and werewolves exist. It follows 17-year-old Bella Swan who moves to the small town of Forks, Washington to live with her father.Bella feels out of place in the gloomy town until she sets her eyes on Edward Cullen, a mysterious classmate who seems determined to push her away. They have an immediate attraction that keeps bringing them together. Bella is thrown for a loop when Edward confesses he and his family are vampires. Despite this shocking discovery their attraction can’t keep them apart, But neither can deny the attraction that pulls them together…even when Edward confides that he and his family are vampires. All of that happens in just the first film.
The remaining films are a giant emotional rollercoaster full of romance, fantasy and a bit of action. Unfortunately each of the films seem to wait until the final act to inject a bit of action into the story. If you are watching these movies to get your action fix, you’re in the wrong place. The last two films in the saga have the most amount of action out of the series.
Instead of reviewing each of the Twilight films I have decided to rank them in order from worst to best.
5. New Moon: This is the gloomiest film in the series. I felt like I was watching paint dry, but in reality I was watching Bella in an almost death-like state while she misses Edward. Even Jacob couldn’t get Bella out of her slump, nor me out of my coma.
4. Eclipse: The film starts off with a bang with a short-lived action sequence featuring Bryce Dallas Howard’s character. Eclipse’s story sparks the plot line of the Volturi coming to battle the Cullen clan so it is not half bad. There are also a few oddly humorous scenes with Edward and Jacob bantering back and fort over Bella.
3. Twilight: This may seem odd for me to put the first film at number 3, but Catherine Hardwicke’s only foray into the Twilight saga left me a little let down. The first book was still enjoyable despite not being the best written book. As a fan I was expecting a bit more. The movie is one of the better ones in the saga, but it is one of the worst shot ones in my opinion.
2. Breaking Dawn, Part 1: Bella comes of-age in this installment. She gets married, has sex and gets pregnant. The momentum of the plot helped build the tension for me. I knew what was coming at the end, but still found myself on the edge of my seat.
1. Breaking Dawn Part 2: This film has a bit of everything for everyone. Of course the romance is still there, but there is a ton more action. Bella is finally a vampire and a badass one at that. I love the mix of awesome Vampire characters joining forces with the Cullens and Werewolves to take on the Volturi. The action scenes are pretty awesome making this my favorite film of the saga.
As you can expect, Twilight Forever looks and sounds amazing. The Blu-ray features a DTS-HD 7.1 Master audio and a 1080p video transfer. This is a must-own set for die hard fans of the series. There are hours of extra features, and all of them are in 1080p. Check out the neverending list of features below.
