COOGAN’S BLUFF Arrives From Kino Lorber

Coogan’s Bluff has just been released by Kino Lorber and features some entertaining and informative special features.

Lately, I’ve been diving deep into the special features on discs. I’ve had to put it on hold until my in-laws leave.

Until then I’ll be forced to mainly watch movies on the weekend, and usually not as many genre films. My father-in-law loves action and war movies. He also likes Clint Eastwood and Charles Bronson, so these are two releases he enjoyed.

This review will focus on Coogan’s Bluff, a sleeper starring Clint Eastwood.

I’m typically a fan of Eastwood films. I actually prefer him behind the camera than in front. That’s a hot take for many. Mind you I never said that I don’t like his acting.

Unfortunately, Coogan is not his best role. There are many unique elements that make the film enjoyable though. I mean, Eastwood movies are just like pizza, they’re never really bad. I guess I should say everything, but the fake baby in American Sniper.

Coogan had to travel to New York City to pick up a criminal and transport him back West. Coogan wears a cowboy hat and clothing, making him stand outline a sore thumb in the city.

It was actually annoying the number of times the NYC detectives kept giving him a hard time about his outfit.

As you can imagine he gets enrolled in the case and sets out to solve it, of course without any help from the local police.

Fans of Eastwood will thoroughly enjoy this release from Kino Lorber. There are some awesome special features. Keep reading to learn more about the film and its special features.

Star Clint Eastwood and director Don Siegel (Two Mules for Sister Sara, The Beguiled, Dirty Harry, Escape from Alcatraz) began their legendary collaboration with the crackerjack crime thriller Coogan’s Bluff. Eastwood commands the screen as Walt Coogan, an Arizona deputy sheriff who is sent to New York City to extradite captured murderer James Ringerman (Don Stroud, Joe Kidd). Coogan slips up, Ringerman escapes again, and the hunt is on! Coogan’s unorthodox law enforcement techniques don’t go over too well with frustrated NYC Police Lieutenant McElroy (Lee J. Cobb, On the Waterfront), who can’t decide which is worse… the prisoner, or the lawman! Lalo Schifrin (Bullitt) provides the stirring score and Susan Clark (The Midnight Man), Tisha Sterling (The Whales of August), Betty Field (Birdman of Alcatraz), and Tom Tully (The Caine Mutiny) co-star in the film that cemented Eastwood’s status as a strong, silent, no-nonsense icon.
