WEREWOLVES WITHIN Movie Review

Werewolves Within, from IFC Films, is my favorite horror-comedy, and perhaps even my favorite video game adaptation. This film had my interest from the release of the trailer.
Sometimes you start watching a movie and a lightbulb clicks in your head, yes this movie is for me. It’s pretty cool that some films are able to do this. Werewolves Within is just this type of film.
The cast and script are what drew me in the most. I enjoy comedies, especially horror comedies.
This niche genre is having a major boom as of late. There’s always been comedy in horror, but the releases of Freaky and Happy Death Day are great examples. If I were forced to rate these three films, I think that Werewolves Within is my favorite.
The film is directed by Josh Ruben, written by Mishna Wolff, starring an ensemble cast including Sam Richardson (VEEP, DETROITERS), Milana Vayntrub (THIS IS US), George Basil (CRASHING), Sarah Burns (BARRY), Michael Chernus (TOMMY/CBS), Catherine Curtin (ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK), Wayne Duvall (THE HUNT), Harvey Guillén (WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS), Rebecca Henderson (RUSSIAN DOLL), Cheyenne Jackson (30 ROCK), Michaela Watkins (BRITTANY RUNS A MARATHON), and Glenn Fleshler (TRUE DETECTIVE).
I am a major fan of Sam Richardson. He was great in Veep, and I really liked him in The Tomorrow War. He was one of the reasons that the movie was as good as it was. As a fan of What We Do in the Shadows, I think that Harvey Guillén is hilarious. The eclectic cast is perfect together. If the cast does not gel well in a film it will not work.
Werewolves Within takes the lead in the horror-comedy genre. I can’t wait to see more from the cast and team behind this film. Check out the latest issue of Fangoria for a great write up about the film. Check out the synopsis below and watch the trailer to help push you towards watching this.
