Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Arrives in 4K – Review

I had only watched bits and pieces of the movie until now. I watched it thanks to Kino Lorber, who released it in 4H UHD this month. You can pick it up here.

Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet work wonderfully off of one another. Elijah Wood, Mark Ruffalo and Kirsten Dunst are great supporting cast of this quirky romance movie.

Carrey is so much more than a comedy actor. He really has unbelievable range. I like him in Man On The Moon. Definitely check that out of you have yet to see it.

Winslet commands your attention in every scene. Her ability to become a new character in every role. Her Oscar nomination was well deserved.

I love the wardrobe department. It looks as though they had some fun the with the characters’ style. Carrey is dressed in dark colors to express bleakness while Winslet adds a ton of color. This juxtaposition is one of the elements that make this 4K look good.

The more I think about Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, I believe it’s actually one of those films that either you love or hate. I am the anomaly and don’t hate it, but I definitely do not love it.

Synopsis

From acclaimed writer Charlie Kaufman (Being John Malkovich) and visionary director Michel Gondry (The Science of Sleep) comes Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, a sci-fi love story starring Jim Carrey (Man on the Moon) and Kate Winslet (Titanic). Joel is stunned to discover that his girlfriend, Clementine, has had their tumultuous relationship erased from her mind. Out of desperation, he contacts the inventor of the process, Dr. Howard Mierzwiak, to get the same treatment. But as his memories of Clementine begin to fade, Joel suddenly realizes how much he still loves her. Co-starring Kirsten Dunst (The Virgin Suicides), Mark Ruffalo (Spotlight), Elijah Wood (The Lord of the Rings) and Tom Wilkinson (Michael Clayton), Eternal Sunshine takes you on a surreal journey through breakups, breakdowns and breakthroughs, with captivating performances (including Best Actress Oscar nominee Winslet) and dazzling creativity (which earned the Best Original Screenplay Oscar).
