NO ESCAPE (2020) Movie Review

If Escape Room and a bad remake of The Game had a baby it would be No Escape. Don’t get me wrong with that statement about The Game. It is near impossible for any film to match of to that classic. It also makes COMPLETE sense seeing as how the film was written and directed by Will Wernick (the director of Escape Room).

The film an ensemble cast of Keegan Allen (“Pretty Little Liars,” Palo Alto), Holland Roden (“Teen Wolf”, “Channel Zero”), Denzel Whitaker (“The Purge”, Black Panther), Ronen Rubinstein (“911: Lone Star” Some Kind of Hate), Pasha Lychnikoff (“Deadwood”,”Shameless”, A Good Day to Die Hard), George Janko (“NCIS: Los Angeles,” Millennial Mafia) and Siya (The First Purge).

No Escape came out of left field for me. I thought I was going to hate it from the jump. It is everything I hate about social media popularity culture and it was filmed in a found footage style (typically my least favorite of the horror genre). As the film progressed the camerawork didn’t bother me and the asshole antics of the lead did not seem to bother me as much either.

Something seemed rotten in Denmark the minute the group got off the plan. There was an ominous feeling and their Russian Billionaire connection was sketchy as fuck. I just knew things were going to go to shit when you found out that they were going into a super exclusive Escape Room,

Just like Wernick’s earlier film also about an escape room, the group of players things everything is just a game until it isn’t. Once the violence and the scares get going they don’t end until the end of the film in the climactic final sequence with one of the biggest twists that you will never see coming.

I would love to hear from you after you see this to know if you were even remotely expecting what happened.

Film Synopsis
