WARM BODIES Movie Review

Warm Bodies is a fun blend of romantic comedy and light horror. This is one that fans of all ages can enjoy. Written and directed by Jonathan Levine, the film stars Nicholas Hoult, Teresa Palmer, John Malkovich, and Rob Cordry.
Adapted from Isaac Marion’s bestselling novel, the story is set after a zombie apocalypse and follows an unlikely romance between a human named Julie (Palmer) and a zombie named R (Hoult). There are two types of zombies that roam the wasteland. corpses (zombies with skin) and bonies (zombies that have dwindled down to just bone).
Julie and her group of human scavengers are out on a medicine run, and are attacked by R and his group of zombies. It is love at first sight when R notices Julie. In a daring move, R save Julie from being eaten and brings her back with him to the airport that his group of zombies reside. What starts as a terrifying partnership, blossoms into a unique relationship. During their odd courtship, R begins to notice he is starting to have feelings. Zombies don’t have feelings usually, so could it be possible that R is becoming a human once again? Just like every relationship there are a few bumps along the way. Aside from the obvious issues of society not accepting a zombie-human romance, the bone zombies are hungry, and see Julie as their way to more food. Will R and Julie’s romance blossom, will R become a human, or will the bone zombies kill everyone? To find out you will have to watch the movie for yourself.
Thanks to Zombieland and AMC’s The Walking Dead, zombies have been even more ingrained in popular culture. I have been a fan of zombie films since George A. Romero‘s Night of the Living Dead. Warm Bodies has numerous funny moments, but nothing is extremely hilarious. It is a solid romantic comedy, which is fun for families of all ages. Warm Bodies is a good date movie, but you may find yourself spending more time concentrating on your date then on the movie. I found the film to drag on an on, with poor pacing.
I like the inner monologue of R, and I am sure that is straight from the book. Palmer and Hoult have great chemistry on screen, and it is hard to imagine that they both are not native English speakers. Malkovich is not in the film nearly enough, but Rob Cordry is a great standout in this role. He will be seen next in Michael Bay‘s Pain and Gain next, and I hope that his role will be good.
Warm Bodies is in theaters now, so go check it out if you are looking for a good date movie or looking for a solid comedy.
