Christoph Waltz up for villain role in TARZAN from Warner Bros.
Christoph Waltz is a great bad guy as can be seen from his performance in Inglorious Basterds. Variety reports that he is in talks to play the villain in Warner Bros’ Tarzan movie. David Yates is on board to direct, and Alexander Skarsgard is set to play Tarzan. At this time the role of Jane has not been cast, but that will likely happen soon.
There have been a number of writers that have worked on the script, including John August, Cormac and Marianne Wibberley and most recently, Adam Cozad. The project is based on Edger Rice Burroughs’ series of novels, but there is no word on how the new version will be interpreted. Variety sources say that “Waltz would be a military figure that crosses paths with the King of the Jungle.” Tarzan is being produced by Jerry Weintraub, Alan Riche and Peter Riche of Riche Prods. and Mike Richardson and Keith Goldberg of Dark Horse Entertainment.
I love Christoph Waltz and think that he could play any villain well, but this sounds like it could be pretty cool. I loved Greystoke starring Christopher Lambert as Tarzan. It will be interesting to see what direction Warner Bros. takes with this adaptation.
