HOMELAND Season 2 Blu-ray Review
Homeland season 2 arrives on Blu-ray and DVD. If you have never watched the Emmy-award-winning Showtime show, this is the perfect opportunity to catch up. Cable TV shows are truly pushing the envelope thanks to amazing scripts and characters you can relate to and root for.
The show has garnered six Emmy awards, including Outstanding Lead Actress for Claire Danes, Outstanding Lead Actor for Damian Lewis and Outstanding Drama Series. The relationship between Danes and Lewis is explosive. I personally love Mandy Patinkin as Saul. The supporting cast makes this show must-watch TV.
The meteoric rise of Marine Sgt. Nicholas Brody (Lewis) has reached it’s pinnacle this season. Brody is now a U.S. congressman trying to mend his relationship with his family, yet being consumed with his work and extracurricular activities working for a terrorist.
CIA agent Carrie Mathison’s (Danes) career has spiraled out of control as we saw at the end of last season. She is now recovering from her mental breakdown, and has returned to civilian life. The CIA puts her back into the fold when a new terrorist threat is discovered. The relationship between Brody and his wife (Morena Baccarin) is rocky for the majority of the season, but the two come together for the sake of their children but that is soon torn apart.
Mathison’s mission is to tail Brody, getting close to him. During a simple meeting to gather intel, she angrily confronts Brody, forcing the CIA to intervene. Brody is put into a dark room and handcuffed to a chair and deprived of sleep.. He is brutally interrogated him, finally breaking him.
Brody admits that he has been secretly working as a terrorist. Seeing a chance to get the upper hand, the CIA offers Brody the opportunity to be a double agent. Mathison’s mission is to tail him at all times, but that once again turns into a romantic relationship that could bring both of their lives crumbling down.
The season is a whirlwind of death and deceit, with one of the most climactic endings that will have your head spinning in disbelief. There are so many twists and turns this season that you will be on the edge-of-your-seat. I watched the entire season over the course of three days, and when I was not watching it I was thinking about it. Each episode is a cliffhanger, leaving you craving more.
The Blu-ray looks and sounds fantastic and features some cool special features that will get you excited for the season premiere on September 29.
