Sonic the Hedgehog TV show headed to Cartoon Network
SEGA is bringing Sonic the Hedgehog back to TV on the Cartoon Network. Variety reports that the iconic video game character will be brought to TV in the form of a CG-animated series by Bill Freiberger (The Simpsons, Drawn Together). This will be SEGA’s first TV show of this kind, and will have a total of 52 11-minute episodes geared to kids ages 6-11.
The show revolves around Sonic, his best friend and sidekick, Tails, their never-ending search for adventure and battles with Sonic’s arch-nemesis, Dr. Eggman. Check out a teaser image for the upcoming show:
Here is what SEGA’s chief content officer, Hiroyuki Miyazaki had to say:
“Sonic is the star of the SEGA universe and the stage is now set for him to shine like never before. Through the new TV series, “we’re ensuring that the Sonic legacy will be introduced to a new generation of children across the globe.”
Sonic the Hedgehog has already appeared in four TV series and more than 70 video games that have sold over 140 million copies. The characters most recent game being “Sonic All-Stars Racing Transformed.”
Since Sonic is comparable to Mickey Mouse it makes sense that SEGA would want to create a show geared at kids to help expand it’s base of new gamers. It has been ages since I have played a Sonic the Hedgehog game. We will keep you posted when more details surface for this series.
