GHOSTBUSTERS III Moving Forward Without Harold Ramis
Sony is still planning on moving forward on Ghostbusters III despite Harold Ramis‘ untimely death. THR reports that Ivan Reitman will soon meet with Sony to discuss how to move forward on the sequel. Ramis, Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray were reportedly planning on starring in the third film in cameo roles, with the story planning on passing the torch onto three new Ghostbusters.
Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky (The Office) penned the script, which will now need to be revamped.
A project insider stated that Ramis’ death will not have a strong impact on Ghostbusters III. The source insisted that Ramis was only involved on a minimal level. Ramis, Murray and Akyroyd held a first-dollar gross stake in the third film along with Reitman, which will revert to Ramis’ estate. There have yet to be any deals signed, and the source states that the leads would be willing to to take cuts to help get Ghostbusters III into production.
The source states that Ramis “always great to bounce something off of, and that will certainly be missed, but it won’t affect the script.”
Prior to Ramis’ passing, the script had been polished enough for plans to begin production in 2014. I for one would love to see Ghostbusters III, and am interested to see how this plays out. Stay tuned for more details as they become available.
