J.K. Rowling’s HARRY POTTER Spinoff to be a Movie Trilogy at WB
Earlier we revealed that WB was set to turn J.K. Rowling‘s Harry Potter spinoff, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, into a movie. At the time it was reported that “the hope is that we’re going to build a film franchise.” Variety is now reporting that there will actually be three films. This is becoming common as of late with The Hobbit and Hunger Games having books turned stretched into more movies.
WB CEO Kevin Tsujihara revealed the news in a recent New York Times post. Fantastic Beasts was written by Rowling between the fourth and fifth Harry Potter books. Tsujihara was instrumental in persuading Rowling to adapting her Hogwarts textbook into a Harry Potter spinoff for the big screen.
Here is what Rowling had to say about Tsujihara and the project:
“When I say he made ‘Fantastic Beasts’ happen, it isn’t P.R.-speak but the literal truth. We had one dinner, a follow-up telephone call and then I got out the rough draft that I’d thought was going to be an interesting bit of memorabilia for my kids and started rewriting!”
The Harry Potter spinoff is not a prequel or sequel, but rather an extension of the Harry Potter world. The story is set seven decades before the start of the Harry Potter story. As a fan of the prior books and films, I am looking forward to the Harry Potter spinoff. I have yet to read Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, so I will have to get on that.
