GAME OF THRONES World Cup Player Lookalikes
The World Cup is on which for some can only be traumatizing. If you don’t like football then it must really be a grueling ordeal. For those who do not like football here is a piece on footballers and their Game of Thrones equivalent as everyone loves Thrones.
For one, Brazil eerily resembles Westeros. Both are located on the far west of the globe. Both have a highly concentrated population in the south east, (Kings Landing vs. Rio de Janeiro or Sao Paulo) and in the north you have the sparsely populated but vast land areas: i.e. Winterfell and the Amazon. Click here for a complete guide to the stadiums in Brazil and here for Westeros.
Check out the list of World Cup players and their Game of Thrones lookalikes:
Tyrion Lannister – Lionel Messi
Nicknamed ‘The imp’, Tyrion is the dwarf son of Tywin Lannister, often maligned for his disability. Despite his stature Tyrion is one of the smartest men in Westeros while his victory over Stannis proved that he has to be feared. Much like Argentina’s forward Lionel Messi, ignore him at your peril. What the two lack in stature they make up for in mental prowess, flair and skill.
Tywin Lannister – Cristiano Ronaldo
Tywin is the Lord of Casterly Rock, Shield of Lannisport, the Warden of the West and the Grandfather to the king. The Lannister patriarch was the real power holder in all of Westeros, before Tyrion ended him. Cristiano Ronaldo not only has a similar stature to Tywin, tall, but as the current Balon d’Or holder he controls the football pitch. And just like Tywin’s biggest rival is Tyrion, Ronaldo’s is Messi.
Manse Rayder – Luis Suarez
Manse is the ‘King-Beyond-the-Wall’ and is a law of his own, which sounds an awful lot like one Luis Suarez. The Uruguayan international is no stranger to bouts of cannibalism, he has been banned from the game twice for biting opposition. If we were in Westeros you would bet that he would not be found south of the wall.
Petyr Baelish – Andrea Pirlo
Alongside Tyrion, Baelish, or Littlefinger, is one of the smartest men in Westoros as well as a master manipulator, using his superior intellect rather than physical presence to get his way. Whilst never at the forefront, he is always pulling the strings. Andrea Pirlo, the most fashionable man in football, is just like Littlefinger, silent but deadly. Turn your back on either and they will have no problem in stabbing you in it.
Oberyn Martell – Gary Medel
Martell gave us one of the most memorable GOT moments of all time, an incident that caused many to break out in tears. Considering his size, which is nothing above average, Oberyn is one hell of a warrior, just ask “The Mountain”…. Oh wait. Chilean, Gary Medel, stands at 1.71m and certainly has small man syndrome. The fiery footballer has no issue in going toe-to-toe with some of the bigger players on the football pitch. However, his sister and nieces are thankfully still alive.
