Star-Lord vs. Captain America: A Sports Betting Battle for Good
Marvel superheroes have the ability to fly, scale buildings and smash through the walls at will, but can they see into the future and successfully predict the outcome of sporting fixtures? As ever, the NFL’s Super Bowl attracted a slew of attention from sports fans and celebrities this year and while the action on the pitch generated a plethora of public attention, it was the off-field antics between two celebrities that really caused a stir.

Causing a buzz on social media and dividing the comic book community was Chris Evans and Chris Pratt. The stars – who portray Captain America and Star-Lord (Guardians of the Galaxy) respectively – decided to represent their superhero alter-egos by setting up a friendly wager. Instead of going online and anteing up using an exchange betting app, the two Hollywood actors decided to bet against each other.
Instead of risking money – Twitter Bowl 2015 – as it became known, the pair agreed to put pride on the line by agreeing to wear their superhero attire and gear to a public function. The rules to the bet were as follows:
- If the New England Patriots win, Chris Pratt had to visit Christopher’s Haven a charity in Boston as Star-Lord and wear a Tom Brady Jersey.
- If the Seattle Seahawks win, Chris Evans had to visit the Seattle Children’s Hospital and wave Seattle’s 12th Man Flag in his Captain American uniform.
For those of you who watched the Super Bowl, you’ll know that the Patriots won which meant Mr. Pratt had to don his Star-Lord suit and visit Christopher’s Haven. However, like true men of honour, the two actors agreed to support each other’s charity and attend both events dressed as their on screen alter egos.
Although the end result might not have won either star any money, the pair’s sports betting wager has managed to raise thousands of dollars for charity which can only be a good thing.
