Andy Serkis And Ian McKellen Officially Confirmed For THE HOBBIT

Andy Serkis and Sir Ian McKellen have officially been confirmed to star in Peter Jackson‘s The Hobbit!

Deadline has reported that Andy Serkis has inked the deal to play Gollum. THR aslo confirmed today that  McKellen is officially signed reprise the role of Gandalf.

As we have reported before the returning cast members include, Cate Blanchett, Elijah Wood, Christopher Lee (Saruman) and Ian Holm as an older Bilbo. The new cast is equally as impressive and is lead by Martin Freeman

Pre-production is underway now in New Zealand with filming to begin in a few months. We pretty much have almost all of the cast lined up for The Hobbit, but I’m sure we’ll be hearing plenty more news over these next few months. The idea of The Hobbit without McKellen and Serkis is like a Pee Wee Herman film without Paul Ruebens. Even though we are just staring 2011, I can’t wait until 2012 to see the first film on the big screen.
Are you as excited about this official news as I am?
