Lena Heady To Play Villain In JUDGE DREDD Remake
Lena Headey (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) has been cast as the main villain in the upcoming Dredd film starring Karl Urban.
Headey will star as Madeline Madrigal AKA Ma-Ma. She joins Juno‘s Olivia Thirlby who is set to play Cassandra Anderson, a character who has psychic powers which include being able to sense approaching danger, foresee events of the near future and telepathy.
This cast gets better and better and I am officially excited for the remake. Pre-production for the film began in August at Cape Town Film Studios in South Africa, and the movie is scheduled to be released in 2012.
The film was written by screenwriter Alex Garland who wrote both 28 Days Later and Sunshine, and Pete Travis is directing. He developed the movie Vantage Point. This new version of Dredd will be a much more accurate representation of the comic book than Sylvester Stallone’s terrible 90’s film. Dredd is also be produced by Danny Boyle’s DNA Films.
Here’s the films Synopsis:
DREDD takes us to the wild streets of Mega City One, the lone oasis of quasi-civilization on Cursed Earth. Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) is the most feared of elite Street Judges, with the power to enforce the law, sentence offenders and execute them on the spot – if necessary. The endlessly inventive mind of writer Alex Garland and the frenetic vision of director Pete Travis bring DREDD to life as a futuristic neo-noir action film that returns the celebrated character to the dark, visceral incarnation from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra’s revered comic strip.
